I took Mark to an appointment at the health department. He was fine at first, as I was chatting with some of my old co-workers. During the appointment, Mark started crying and nothing would console him. I eventually was able to get into his mouth and there was tooth number two visible right below the gum line. Mark was grumpy most of the afternoon, but around 4pm he started being a smiley baby again. Poor baby is going through this teething process again. We'll soon have pictures of Mark with teeth!

It is still icy here. We finally got above freezing today, but the roads are still icy. Mike drove us to the grocery store yesterday. (I finally got out of the house!) We are possibly going to have some snow over the weekend. I am ready for warmer temperatures.
Mark woke up at 3am last night. It took me awhile to realize that he was crying because he is teething. Once I gave him some teething medicine and a cold teether, he became happy again. Then we had to convince him that he wanted to go back to sleep.

We have been battling with sleep issues for the last month or so. Mark was sick, we traveled away for the holidays, then Mark was teething. We have been working on getting Mark on a better sleeping routine. He is napping much better and he begins the night sleep just fine. Mark does have some congestion and that was probably the cause of the wakefulness between 3am and 4am this morning. I have been reading books on sleep, but they all seem to say different things. So does anyone have anything that works for them?

It is cold and icy outside so Mark and I are inside again today. Mike is at work and Mark is taking a nap. This picture was taken yesterday. Mark enjoys riding around on Daddy's shoulders.
Mark is starting to try different foods. It is quite a sight to see Mark's facial expression when he tries a new food. He had his first Cheerio over the weekend. He also had some mashed up banana. Mark seems to enjoy playing with the food rather then eating it. (It must be the scientist in him.) Mark is also trying to be more independent. He wants the spoon when I am trying to feed him, so he will grab it and then dump whatever is on the spoon as he is getting the spoon to his mouth. Mealtime is getting messy. I have found that if I use two spoons and give one to Mark then I have more success in getting food into his mouth.
Mark has had a cold, but he is getting better. He slept much better last night and Mommy and Daddy appreciated that!

WINTER WEATHER
We are experiencing an ice storm. We are staying indoors today, which means we are being entertained by Mark. Mike thought Mark might like to ride around in a box. Mark really enjoyed that. Here are some other cute pictures that were recently taken.

My new tricks
Mark is doing lots of new things. He is getting up on his hands and knees and then getting up on his head and toes. I am not sure if he will be crawling on somersaulting first. Until he figures out crawling, he is combat crawling and rolling to his chosen destination.
Mark is quite entertaining when he is shaking his head back and forth. He is also waving at Mommy and Daddy more often and screaming with delight every time he sees one of the cats. Beginning last week Mark began to bring his hands together and this morning he made his hands clap.
Mark's first tooth began to emerge today. So our little guy is growing up.
