I (Mike) had a rough day this past Monday. I had to take an ambulance trip to the emergency room. I had a moderately severe anaphylactic response to my allergy shots, which I've been taking for a few months now.
I got all sorts of fun treatments - two shots of epinephrine, a shot of Benadryl, and an I.V. of methylprednisolone. However, I was released within 45 minutes. (Once Joanna and Mark arrived, the emergency room staff was all goo-goo about Mark, who was so well-behaved; he quickly stole the spotlight from me!)
The allergy doc and I agreed yesterday that continuing on with allergy shots isn't a good idea. He says he only sees people with extreme reactions like that maybe once per decade. I guess I'm the lucky guy!
In a way I feel disappointed, like a failure, because I wanted to be the "perfect patient" and complete my allergy series...

First of all, thanks for taking the ambulance trip and not trying to drive yourself! And we're so glad you're okay!!! Funny how you're no longer the center of attention...just get used to it. :) We're still proud of you and what a good patient you were. I can't believe you know all the meds you got!! :) You and your dad seem to be the "chosen" ones this month (this week?) Take care, and keep the Kleenex close by!
This was a true triumph! For those who don't know Mike very well, doctors and shots, etc. are not his favorite thing! He overcame massive misgivings to take this on in the first place! Although it didn't turn out as he wished, he still WON, because he did it! Good for you, Mike! We are so proud of the effort. As Jeanie said, Monday was not a good day for you or your dad, but how thankful we all are that both of you are OK!
Mike told me while in the ER that he would be able to go back to work that afternoon. Since I had the car, I was able to convince him to take a sick day and stay home.
I just cringe every time I start to read this blog entry. I'm so glad you took the ambulance, too. There's many times people are afraid that they're overreacting or what not or just try to "wait and see." You did the smart thing.
